Wow.. what a beautiful, beautiful book. And I'm not talking about the cover alone. The storyline and the characters were just impeccably well-written. An epic fantasy can't get any better than this. As already mentioned this book is an epic fantasy, so expect a lot of sword fights.
To start with, let's talk about Primoria, the land where the magic and adventure happen. Primoria is made up of eight kingdoms - four Season kingdoms and four Rhythm kingdoms. The four Season kingdoms have eternal seasons, and Rhythm kingdoms cycle through all seasons. Each kingdom has a conduit which is the source of magical power that the king or queen is able to use within his or her territory. Frankly, it took me a while to get the hang of all this information. It was a little overwhelming because there were so many names and back stories. However, as I read more it got easier and I was able to follow the story and I enjoyed it greatly.
I was extremely in love with Meira. She was the kind of character that I couldn't help but root for. And I did shout out a couple of times because it was so hard to keep quiet when it was this intense. All the fierceness, the bravery, the resourcefulness and loyalty made her one of the most memorable characters I have ever read. I loved that even in the gloomiest situation where it seemed like death was the only way out, Meira remained somehow confident. She did not surrender at the earliest sight of trouble.
I should have liked the romance in this book because I totally don't usually like it this way. I was glad it turned out the way I hoped for. The sweet moment was sweeter than I had expected and I loved it! I loved how they sacrificed for one another, had each other's back. It was beautiful.
All the emotions and the action were amazing beyond words. It was difficult for me to hold back tears when the emotions were running high. The cruelty that Winterians had to face when they were enslaved was almost too much for me.
Now I have to gush about the writing. The flow and the pace were exceptional. The way the author describe Primoria made me want to jump in the book and just forget everything and live there forever. Well, minus the cruel and evil force that was Angra. I'm pretty sure that this book will make a great movie.
Because of how the book ended, I cannot wait to read the next installment. I loved that it did end beautifully, without much of a cliffhanger. However, there are still a lot to cover, and I am looking forward to an epic return of this book and its wonderful characters.
I don't usually enjoy epic fantasy, but this book has changed how I felt about this genre. It was an incredible experience for me and I'm glad I read this book. It is a perfect book for those who enjoy book with a lot of action and of course, rather emotional scenes.
